Streaming on Twitch and Going Viral on Instagram

The classes I signed up for this semester were surprisingly chill and less time intensive than expected. I realized this early on in the semester when my girlfriend would always be flooded with homework and I was pretty free. I decided to use the time and decided on streaming on Twitch. Why? My reasoning was that I already spend time playing all these video games, and with a little effort, I could stream these games. While I didn't expect to blow up, which I didn't, seeing the occasional viewer, whether it be my friend or a random Twitch viewer, pop into my chat, always makes my day and motivates me to continue streaming. It's also nice talking out loud while streaming and articulating all of my thoughts because when I play alone all these thoughts simply stay jumbled up in my head. With the semester winding down, I have no idea if I will stream at all this summer or in the future, but it has been fun while it lasts, and I hope to find the time to continue.

I finally blew up on Instagram! I've run a meme account that posts memes from Reddit on Instagram for about 5 years now. Initially, growth was slow but consistent, and at one point I was gaining around 1 thousand followers a month or so. Right before hitting 15k, I posted a meme that got reported to Instagram and my growth significantly slowed down, but continued. It took me only a year to hit 15k, but over the next 3 years, I only gained about 10k more. After hitting 25k, another one of my memes got reported, and I believe I got shadowbanned. The views and likes on my posts went way down, and I started losing way more followers than I gained, whereas today I only have 20.4k left. However, last week I posted a meme as usual, switched back to my personal account, and forgot about it. When I checked it two days later, I noticed I had 3.5k likes. Wow! most-liked post ever. Miraculously, when I checked it the day after and every day after, the likes continued to grow, by the thousands, up to today, where it currently stands with 11.7k likes. I don't think my next most-liked post even has 3k. I don't know why this one blew up and how it did, but it has motivated me to continue posting on my account where I've made 1995 posts over the last 5 or 6 years. I posted every day for about 2.5 years until getting tired of the shadow ban and slowing it down, but all 1992 posts before this one have been worth the one meme that blew up.
